The One Drop is ideal for some heavy
roots sounds, even when they are created
with the TR 808 sounds. Especially by making
your own sequence of the loops, you can
create some pretty complicated but solid
rhythms. Usually there is only "one
drop" of the bassdrum in every measure,
on the third count, which brings this
solidness. But the creative hi hat pattern
and several variations make it also
interesting for those with an ear for
detail. That's the power of the One Drop and
it shows especially in heavy DUB.
The loops are constructed in such a way,
that you can easily copy any loop after any
loop. You can even use software like Cool
Edit and simple "open append" the
loops you want in order to get a nice drum
track.
Beware, though. Although the loops are all 4
to 8 measure long, they do not actually
start on the first measure. This becomes
clear, when you listen to the introduction
roll. So start with the introduction roll,
and listen closely. When you count the
measure in blocks of 8 measure, know that
the loops start with the "last
measure" and then continues with the
first seven (or three) measures. The
reason why this is done, is so that all
loops can follow eachother easy. For in
every measure, there is some decay of the
hand clap from the previous one. This is
also the reason why you hear the
"click" at the start of every
measure. When you copy/paste them in a
sequence, this click is gone.
